Mixed Metal Oxide Anodes

Mixed metal oxide anodes
made of titanium

Anodes with mixed metal oxide coating typically consist of titanium as the base metal, on which noble metal oxides of the platinum group are applied along with other valve metals. Usually, iridium mixed metal oxide coatings are used for chloride-free electrolytes, while ruthenium or iridium/ruthenium mixed metal oxide coatings are used for the production of chlorine and hypochlorite.

For particularly demanding conditions with high current density or polarity reversal, additional metallic or ceramic intermediate layers can be applied.

Mixed metal oxide anodes are characterized by the following properties:

  • Flexible, application-specific design
  • Possibility of producing complex shaped anodes
  • Easy handling, low maintenance
  • Energy saving potential
  • Polarity reversal operation possible
  • Low weight (especially expanded metal anodes)
  • Long service life at very high current densities
  • Dimensional stability
  • Possibility of reactivation
