Diamond anodes from METAKEM – Efficient, durable and sustainable
Diamond anodes – consisting of a conductive base material (sheet metal or expanded metal) and a thin polycrystalline diamond layer – are increasingly establishing themselves in the fields of water disinfection, wastewater treatment, and electrochemical syntheses.
Thanks to high oxygen overvoltages, OH radicals, ozone, or percompounds (persulfate, peracetic acid, etc.) are generated on the diamond layers. Due to their high oxidation power, these in turn destroy organic compounds and cyanides, among others, thus helping to reduce the COD of the water to be treated.
Diamond anodes should be operated under optimal electrolysis conditions. They can often be easily installed in existing electrolysis cells for metal processing. This allows both processes – metal deposition and organic decomposition – to be carried out simultaneously in one system. The diamond anode is fundamentally characterized by excellent wear resistance – even under chemically very demanding conditions – and is thus also an interesting alternative from a business perspective.
